After donning protective gloves and waterproof work boots or possibly rain boots to protect your feet heat and pour enough boiling water to completely cover the carpet glue and give it about.
Let the solution set on the glue and loosen it.
The heat will soften the glue and as it is doing so scrape it off using your handy razor blade scraper.

Use caution and wear gloves when you re handling ammonia as it s a dangerous chemical.
Then using a paintbrush or sponge dampen the glue with the mineral spirits or adhesive remover according to manufacturer s guidelines.
Hot water will make the glue come to a softer state.
Do not allow the boiling water to sit for too long or it will cool off.

Next dab the wd 40 onto the remaining adhesive.
You may want to try and chip away some of the glue prior to applying anything especially if it s general carpet adhesive.
Let the hot water penetrate for about 2 minutes.
