Wet Spot On Carpet Upstairs

Again many people think that standing water is due to it coming through the floor and while it might have you must also check the ceiling.

Track it from the wet carpet assuming this is real recent so wood insulation would still be wet up or horizontally to where the leak is. Just noticed when cleaning and moved couch. Why would there be water on my carpet in corner of room. Is a small area and is away from bathroom kitchen etc.

Plumber leak detector guy found it the water migrated to the spot somehow from the opposite side of the closet without making the closest wall wet at all or the carpet along the way. When i stepped on it it got wetter so i used my carpet cleaner to suck up all the water and noticed 10 min later it was just a wet. This is on first floor in living room facing front. Two nights ago i noticed one small wet spot probably 3x3 inches or so on my carpet.

So first look for any signs on the ceiling for water damage. I didn t think much of it i figured i had perhaps spilled water and not noticed. This morning even worse. We have noticed a wet spot on the carpet between the bedroom and the living room it s always damp.

In my living room nowhere near a window about 4 ft away from my front door and 3 ft away from wall i noticed a damp spot on the floor. This faces front of house. No visible wall damage and area around it seems to be dry. Seems like a small spot.

If you still can t find a likely source then sort of a devil s choice you could call either a roofer or a plumber and hope they find the source given about a 50 50 chance of chosing the one you need to. Within a week or so the damp spot progressed to a puddle 4 by 6 feet that a wet vac couldn t really keep up with. Upstairs is one unit and downstairs is the other.

Check your entire ceiling not just the surrounding area of. Its on opposite side of all plumbing. Don t waste your time trying to dry out the carpet with a wet dry shop vacuum it simply doesn t have enough power. Doesn t smell bad either.

This could be in the form of a wet spot a stain or perhaps even the leak itself. If not you ll have to buy several gfci equipped extension cords and run power from upstairs receptacles. Then last night it seemed like there were a few more spots.
