Wet Room Lighting Zones

Zone 1 for a bathroom is the same width as zone 0 the width of the bath extending to 2 25m above the finished floor level.

Zone 0 for a shower room is the area inside the shower basin. 3m and it turns and 3m further is the shower cubicle. Any fitting used in this zone must be low voltage max 12v and be rated at least ip67 which is total immersion proof. No problem as i thought what happened after i completed was they changed the shower tray and decided to tile the floor and make it a wet room.

Bathrooms are inherently wet rooms and electricity and water don t mix happily. So we are well out of the zones. Zone 1 is the area directly above zone 0 to the height of 2 25m from the bottom of the bath or shower. Zone 0 is inside the bath or shower itself.

Most bathroom light fittings are ip20 or above rated and depending on their ip rating they can be mounted in the different zones in the bathroom. Consider zone 1 to be the splash zone where the installed equipment is likely to get very wet very quickly but would not necessarily be submerged. There are 3 designated electrical zones in the wet room that have been identified in the iee wiring regulations and it is crucial that any of the appliances listed above is sited in the correct zone. The bathroom can be split into 4 zones zone 0 to zone 3.
